The Dana Street Saga Saturday, July 21, 1973 - 2 PM On Friday I took Cici to her swimming lessons, then watched some of the Watergate hearings at her house. After that, she and I rode over to Payless to get her a swimsuit for our trip to Long Island, as she'd been wearing shorts and a halter to her swimming lessons. I suggested we go on a motorcycle expedition, but she didn't want to. Sue couldn't go on the one we'd earlier planned, as she'd just gotten a job at the Vet in Albany and was working all day. Cici and I also went to the bank, where she cashed a check, then to the photo store where she left her film, and I said hi to Terri. After dinner, Andy and Dennis were sitting in the kitchen playing guitars. Sue was there too. She and I went to get some wine, and we all drank it for awhile. Randy also joined us. And I was playing harmonica for awhile too. A little after 10, Bob and another couple came over for Sue, and things broke up in the kitchen, so I rode over to Hard Times. First I went into the Cheshire Cat. Meredith was working, and she gave me a friendly greeting. Then the guy she was working with saw her greeting me, and said, "It's Ralph. Wow, it's been a long time," etc., and put on a big play about it, then called in the other guy saying, "Hey, guess who's back. It's Ralph!" He came out and we went through a big production, then he announced to everyone, "Hey, everyone, Ralph's back!" and everyone clapped, and it was all a big, funny scene. He also gave me a beer. Anyway, Meredith told me she was a "divorcee" today, they'd filed for their divorce. Also she said, when I told her of my upcoming trip, that she might be going to New York, too, prior to leaving for Europe. Finally I left to go downstairs to Hard Times, and I told Meredith I'd stop by to see her before I go, as she'd earlier asked me to. Human Dean was playing at Hard Times, and they were pretty good. I first danced with Laurie from the T-shirt shop. Then I sat at the bar for a little while. I saw a pretty blonde girl, who was obviously with someone else, but I asked her to dance while her boyfriend was gone for awhile. She said she'd love to. Her name was Sheila, and she was the most attractive girl there, and gave me friendly looks later in the evening. But she and her boyfriend, a tall guy, left early without me seeing them leave. A girl name Vicky asked me to dance, and we did a few times, and I joined her at her table. She was cute, but not real pretty, from Concord. She flirted with a lot of people, but mostly with me. I stayed with her until the band quit, and she left with the guy she was with and another couple, the girl of which was also named Vicky, and was quite pretty. I went back upstairs to the Cheshire Cat, where they were dancing to a tape of good dance music, like the Stones and Credence. Saw and said hi to Jan and Karen, and to Meredith again. A girl was giving me friendly smiles, so I went over and danced with her until they closed. Her name was Debbie, and she was fairly cute. I offered her a ride home, but she said she only lived a couple of blocks away, so we split. But I rode my motorcycle up past her and stopped, and she invited me in "for coffee," so I said sure. There we talked awhile. She's out for the summer from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, is from New York, studying history, taking a course in journalism at Cal, likes tennis and sailing. Around 3 AM, I got up to leave, and we kissed goodnight for a long time, really getting into it, and I finally asked, "Shall I stay or go?" She said, "Stay, for awhile." So we went to the bedroom, proceeded to undress, caress, and make love, taking a long time, with both of us finally reaching climaxes, hers long before mine. She said I could stay all night if I wanted, but she'd have to get up and cough from time to time, as she was sick. I said, that was okay. Her roommate was away for the weekend at a nudist camp. We slept on separate mattresses on the floor. In the morning, I moved in with her on her mattress, and we gradually aroused each other and made love again. Finally I got up to leave, saying a friendly goodbye and leaving my number. But it didn't seem probable that we'd get together again. We were a bit shy with each other. I felt a bit funny about the situation. It was pretty much of a one-night-stand, which I'm not really into. I felt almost like I was exploiting her, though it was clearly a mutual interest at primarily a sexual level. Anyway, I had a hangover, came home, took a bath, and went back to bed until 2 PM. I still feel pretty weak and tired. Checked the mail, and still haven't heard from Mary about the trip, nor from Wendy, which bothers me. previous - next - - index - - - - I Ching Start at the beginning? Read the Preface?
